Dr. Mercè Boada, medical director of Fundació ACE, and Dr. Marta Marquié, neurologist of the Fundació, have participated this week in the 14th edition of Human Amyloid Imaging Conference (HAI 2020) in Miami, held at the International University of Florida (United States).
In HAI 2020, an event co-organized by Massachusetts General Hospital and the universities of Pittsburgh and California, aspects such as the meaning of the presence of cerebral amyloid, how it should be measured, how it changes and what it foreshadows are addressed. At the conference, the speakers report unpublished and cutting-edge research in human images of beta amyloid and / or other biomarkers related to Alzheimer's.
The brains of people with Alzheimer’s disease have an excess of beta-amyloid protein in the form of senile plaques. The accumulation of this protein in the brain is considered the main hypothesis of the origin of Alzheimer’s disease.
The 2019 HAI conference attracted more than 400 attendees and exhibited 155 posters of research groups from North America, Europe, East Asia and Australia.
