transversal services

project management

The Project Management service focuses on the documentation, direction and practical management in the management of a project. Its objectives, among others, are to promote new projects, to identify, formulate, evaluate and submit for authorisation initiatives and proposals and propose how they should be selected and prioritised.

Since it started in 2014, it has collaborated in the presentation of projects to national and international institutions and organisations, providing our professionals’ participation to national and international research groups and companies. This has generated a network of contacts, multiplying the exchange of all manner of professional experience between participants.

genotyping

At the Fundación ACE laboratory, we have implemented a protocol for genotyping the Ɛ4 allele of the APOE gene, the greatest genetic risk factor for late-onset Alzheimer’s Disease.

Genotyping consists in analysing individual variations in the DNA sequence. To carry out this process, the following steps are necessary: 1) The extraction of DNA from whole blood; 2) the quantification of DNA; and 3) the multiplication of the number of DNA copies using the polymerase chain reaction technique.

This final step involves high resolution melting (HRM), which makes it possible to differentiate single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) within the DNA sequence. In this way, the process enables us to identify subjects carrying the risk allele.

neuroimaging

Fundació ACE has a quantitative neuroimaging department, responsible for mathematically processing brain images. There, data both from clinical trials and research projects is processed. This is done using a workflow made up of free software tools which can run highly complex computational analysis. Where necessary, we also develop ad hoc tools and coordinate projects to develop that area.

statistical analysis

This resource is formed by a group whose efforts are directed towards supporting all professionals and projects carried out at the Fundación, therefore constituting a truly overarching service.

It offers methodological and biostatistical support and advice, covering the diverse working paradigms available, whether the perspective is classical or more inferential, or the more explorative and current approaches offered by data mining.
