Dr Maria del Pilar Cañabate is currently head of the Social Work Unit and coordinator of Social Research at Fundació ACE. She has a PhD in Social and Cultural Anthropology from the University of Barcelona and a Master in Bioethics and Law from the same University. Since 1998 she has been part of the diagnostic team of Fundació ACE Memory Clinic and accompanies families throughout the disease, offering support and strategies so that they can deal with the situation with competence. She is also part of Anthropology Department at the University of Barcelona.
Dr Cañabate regularly collaborates with local and regional governments as an expert, advising them in the design of social and health policies. She has participated in the writing of several clinical practice guides in dementias. Her scientific interest is focused on the study of the factors that influence the well-being of the caregiver and the person with dementia; the structure of care, the relationship between dementia and gender and the ethical and legal aspects related to cognitive impairment.
