A total of 2942 people attended the free memory checks that Fundació ACE offers since 2008 in the framework of more than 70 Open Days organized over the last 10 years. Only last year, a total of 214 people were attended in the 14 sessions that were carried out at the Diagnostic Unit of the Foundation.
Through these conferences, which are fully funded by Fundació ACE, people over 50 years are offered the possibility of assessing their memory, language and other cognitive functions. These reviews are done through a neuropsychological battery managed by the professionals (neurologists, neuropsychologists and psychologists) of the Foundation.
Although there is currently no cure for Alzheimer's or other types of dementia, early diagnosis is a key tool to delay the symptoms of the disease and modify its progression in the short and midterm, thanks to different techniques that allow to keep basic activities of daily life for longer. Likewise, early diagnosis gives the possibility of planning and making decisions about the future when the disease is still in mild phases.
Currently there is still a significant percentage of people with dementia who have not been diagnosed and, therefore, are completely unaware of their situation. For this reason, Fundació ACE wants to raise awareness among the population about the importance of knowing their cognitive performance.
