In the words of a person with Alzheimer's
Lawyers, artists, mechanics, journalists, hairdressers, educators... Alzheimer's does not understand professions or educational level. The Day Care Unit at Ace Alzheimer Center Barcelona is attended by a wide variety of people, with and without studies, and from very different profiles and backgrounds.
All of them, anonymous strangers, with different levels of cognitive impairment, meet at Ace to work on different cognitive and functional areas that allow them to improve their quality of life.
This is the case of Moncho, a person whose professional goals took him abroad and who is now a user of what he calls "the gym of the mind", formally known as the cognitive workshop of the Day Hospital.
He explains it in a chronicle that he sent to the Ace team and that, with his excellent narrative style, takes the reader to his experience with Alzheimer's and how he faces the new life he began in the fall of 2021, a date that, in Moncho’s words, "marks the kilometer zero of my great private race against time".
This chronicle puts words to the life of a person with Alzheimer's and the importance of the social work of entities such as Ace Alzheimer Center Barcelona that accompany anonymous people in their journey through Alzheimer's disease.
