The Clinical Trials Unit restarts face-to-face activity
The Fundació ACE's Clinical Trials Unit once again receives participants from active studies in person.
The recovery of the activity complies strictly with safety and prevention criteria to ensure the protection of team members, people with dementia and their families and carers.
To ensure compliance with the protective measures, the entity limits the number of accompanying persons to one. These measures, which will be adjusted as de-climbing evolves, consist of providing disinfectant gel, mask, gloves, disposable gown and shoe protection upon arrival at the centre.
Participants' temperatures will also be taken to detect possible cases of COVID-19, although all patients with scheduled visits are advised not to come to the centre if they have a fever or symptoms of COVID-19.
In addition, Fundació ACE makes available to clinical trial patients a PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) test to detect coronavirus as a preventive measure.
More than a hundred trials since 1996
To advance the knowledge and treatment of dementia, Fundació ACE actively participates in numerous clinical trials that cover all evolutionary phases: from pre-clinical phases (when symptoms have not yet manifested themselves) to the most advanced.
In fact, in the last year alone, Fundació ACE has participated in 22 clinical trials. Since 1996, it has carried out more than a hundred studies of this type.
What is a clinical trial?
Clinical trials are studies designed to learn about the effects of an investigational drug or procedure. Participation in a research study is free and voluntary, and people who decide to collaborate in them have the opportunity to access new treatments and innovative diagnostic techniques, currently not accessible to the rest of the population, which could help the evolution of the disease and improve their quality of life.
