Registration is now open to attend the XII edition of the Barcelona-Pittsburgh Conference, which will gather around 500 experts from the world of Alzheimer's and dementias in Barcelona on May 20, 21 and 22. The conferences, organized by Fundació ACE - Barcelona Alzheimer Treatment & Research Center and the Alzheimer Disease Research Center of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, offer for three days multiple presentations and round tables made up of professionals of recognized national and international prestige.

The Barcelona – Pittsburgh Conference, which has been held since 1998, has established itself as a reference meeting point for experts related to neurodegenerative diseases, with the purpose of building an update in all fields of dementia research. From this week, all people interested in attending can already register through the Fundació ACE website.

New treatments, genetic research and neuroimaging, to debate

This year's edition will start with two workshops that will debate the ethical aspects involved in the diagnosis of the disease and in the behavioral disorders suffered by people with dementia. During the session, different reference professionals in this field will value and share their vision around the praxis of their professional task.
Likewise, advances in genetic and biomarker research and in the field of neuroimaging will be the central theme in various sessions of the Barcelona-Pittsburgh Conference, by professionals such as Jean Charles Lambert, of the IGAP International Genetic Consortium of the dementia, or Victor Luis Villemagne, world leader in neuroimaging.

To address the new projects related to the prevention and prediction of Alzheimer's disease in mild and moderate phases, there will also be the participation of laboratories leading the race to find the cure.

Barcelona-Pittsburgh will also be the scene of the delivery of the 6th Joan Boada & Mercè Rovira Prize that has recognized, for ten years, the task of professionals in the field of dementias. James T. Becker, professor of psychiatry, neurology and psychology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, was awarded in 2018 for his contribution to research in the field of aging.

Fundació ACE and Alzheimer Research Center of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine have organized since 1998 the Barcelona-Pittsburgh congress that biennially brings together national and international speakers and prestigious professionals from the world of Alzheimer's and dementias. The forum gathers the latest developments and scientific advances with the final purpose of benefiting the sick and their families.
