Mercè Boada has been awarded with the Gold Medal for Scientific Merit

On November 15, the Presidency, Security and Internal Regime Commission of Barcelona City Council approved granting the Gold Medal for Scientific Merit to Dr. Mercè Boada, co-founder and chief medical officer of Ace Alzheimer Center Barcelona.

The council especially valued “her lifelong dedication to the study of dementia and Alzheimer's disease and her innovative approach through non-pharmacological treatment based on holistic patient care, including their improvement in independence and quality of life, as well as listening to the concerns and fears of their caregivers; works that have contributed to positioning Barcelona as an international hub of reference in excellence in research into Alzheimer's disease."

Dr. Boada has said that she feels "grateful and honoured for the recognition of my city" and has highlighted that "it is a medal with names: my family, who has always accompanied me in my passion for medicine; the team of professionals who have believed in the Ace Alzheimer Center Barcelona project; and the names of the patients and families who have generously collaborated in the research."

The former minister Andreu Mas-Colell and the physicist Lluís Torner have also been awarded with the Gold Medal for Scientific Merit.
