Adressing the Challenge of Dementia With Primary and Community Care Professionals

With the expected increase on cases of dementia in Spain the next years, the public and private healthcare of the country is going to require different tools to face this challenge.

According to Alzheimer Europe estimates, in 2050 it is expected that 1.741.462 Spaniards will suffer from dementia, representing 3,99% of the population. This represents a significant increase compared to 2018, where 1,83% was recorded. In front of this imminent wave, what can healthcare professionals do to respond to this growing challenge?

All the responses are going to be discussed during the colloquium dinner that is organised from Ace Alzheimer Center Barcelona, together with Nutricia, on Thursday, March 14 at 7:30 pm.

The Hotel Porta Fira de L’Hospitalet de Llobregat is going to be the meeting point that will bring primary and community care professionals to discuss current and future strategies for the diagnosis and treatment of dementia.

This group will play a crucial role in the diagnosis and treatment of people with dementia. With the advent of new drugs, it is more important than ever to diagnose Alzheimer’s early to provide the best possible treatment.

Ace Alzheimer Center Barcelona is a specialist dementia provider, within the framework of the Catalan public health system. For 30 years, the institution has been carrying out accurate diagnoses in which a multidisciplinary team made up of neurologists, neuropsychologists, social workers, nurses and geriatricians intervene to assess the patient’s cognitive abilities and, also, the resources available to them and their structure of cures; information they obtain through interviews with their relatives.

Top level speakers

Dr. Mercè Boada, neurologists and cofounder of Ace Alzheimer Center Barcelona; Dr. Franco Appiani, neurologist and head of training at Ace; and Dr. Xavier Morató, pharmacist and deputy director of clinical trials, will be in charge of presenting a new way of addressing dementia in order to diagnose it early and thus have the opportunity to access effective drugs.

At the end of the session, attendees will have a networking space to exchange ideas and opinions with the speakers and other presents.
