Access to Health Care in Times of COVID-19

The fifth edition of Alzheimer's Night will focus on caring for people with dementia during the pandemic

Fundació ACE - Barcelona Alzheimer Treatment & Research Center organizes "Alzheimer's Night: against COVID, let's bridge the gap" to raise funds to develop and implement the ACEhealth telematic assistance platform, which will guarantee the care of people with Alzheimer's in the context generated by COVID-19 and from anywhere in the world.

The fifth edition of The Alzheimer's Night will be held on Wednesday, December 2nd and this year it will be a virtual event that will focus on the ACEhealth project.

The Alzheimer's Night is a solidarity initiative born in 2016 in order to create a meeting point between the scientific world and society, give voice to the activities of prevention, treatment and research on Alzheimer's and sensitize society about the need to invest in research to advance the fight against the disease and care for people with dementia.

Dr. Mercè Boada, co-founder and medical director of the ACE Foundation, points out that "the situation of COVID-19 has affected people with Alzheimer's. With the ACEhealth program, we want to provide the best quality of care with the rigor that identifies us and we want to ensure that in no corner of Catalonia, in any corner of the world, there is a person who does not have access to the diagnosis and the support of Fundació ACE".

Caregiving, a priority

The COVID-19 pandemic has made clear the need to transform care models for vulnerable people. The ACEhealth platform will allow people living with dementia to be monitored electronically and to bring the knowledge and experience of Fundació ACE to people who are in rural or distant areas and who currently do not have easy access to these services.

On the other hand, it will facilitate the early diagnosis of people affected by Alzheimer's disease without putting them at risk of contracting the virus while traveling or staying in the medical center. With this tool, Fundació ACE will make the care of its professionals available to all, a multidisciplinary team with 25 years of experience in the diagnosis, treatment and investigation of dementias.

How to collaborate

Anyone who wishes can collaborate with the initiative through the campaign website, choosing between the different possible donations. Depending on the contribution made,Fundació ACE will give away a digital book or tickets for the event.

The Foundation will allocate the resources obtained in the programming and implementation of the ACEhealth platform.
